Old Airport and Surrounding Areas
This is one of the older areas of Doha , with busy main roads , but once you get off the main drag it is very peaceful . Despite its proximity to the airport you’re now actually under the flight path. Some of the area’s benefits are that it is slightly cheaper than other areas and that local amenities are good , Including the mall . It’s also handy to the airport . On the downside there is very little green space and almost no leisure facilities.The main route through this area is the busy D Ring Road , Which offer easy access to other parts of the city via new underpass.
Accommodation
There are a lot of stand alone villas and some compounds . including what is consider the nicest in Doha , which have great facilities and nice garden . The compound managers have good reputation and the properties have well chosen furnishings and good finish so expect to pay top dollar of around QR 25,000 per month for three bedroom and be warned that empty villas are snapped up fast. Other compounds and villas in this area are cheaper particularly some of the older ones , beginning at around QR 17,000
Shopping and amenities
The Mall is one of the older malls but good one. It’s got Q-Mart supermarket which has a lot of western products , including nicest sausages in town and ID Design , Which has simple , modern but expensive Scandinavian furniture . Up on the airport road ( Al Matar Street ) , are the super cheap Al Rawnaq and dream shopping which are bargain hunter’s paradise. Just before them a branch of family food center . Another Doha institution is the massive lulu hypermarket on the D Ring road between the mall round about and airport lights
Entertainment & Leisure
Once a gain the shopping mall comes up trumps with the italian Biella and the upmarket indian garden royal in the mall.there are various Cafes too.which is famed with its cakes . There are no parks but there’s an indoor play place at the mall.However Wakra’s Beach is 10 minute driving away . The gulf Cinema is on C Ring Road.
Education
Nearby is the new Cedar primary school , Also close by are park house , Aljazeera Academy and Newton Secondary school .There are few nurseries in the area too including Elder tree nursery
